SOFTCUT KNIFE CO. is a collaboration between blacksmith Kiran Chapman (Soma Metalwork) and longtime knife specialist and Japanese sword enthusiast Evan Atwell (Strata & Strata Swords). We’ve combined nearly a decade of experience in our respective fields, from forging and sharpening to the ever expanding relationships we’re building with workshops and manufacturers around the world.

Our knives represent all that we’ve learned from selling and servicing thousands of blades, refining our forging and grinding techniques, and studying with some of the best makers to expand our own understanding of what’s possible. Every SOFTCUT knife is made by hand and designed for daily use — whether on the line or at home. We work in small batches using a variety of steels to create clean and considered products with metallurgy and geometry that speak for themselves. Our goal is to create tools that are striking but don’t need explaining — just pick them up and get to work.
